Moving forward into 2010

Last year was a productive time at Oleander United Methodist Church. We constructed and dedicated a new fellowship hall, the "Parr Building," and what a joyous addition it has been for our fellowship activities. We started an informal "Beach Break" service at 8:30 am that is held in our new hall and our Children and Youth Ministries have flourished even more by the having the extra room. Our congregation had grown in spirit and in numbers and has started several new outreach ministries for the community. One of them is "Common Threads," a ministry that invites women to come together and make "butterfly" pillowcases that are given to hospice, nursing care centers and AIDS clinics. We are also beginning a program of creating AIDS Care Teams. Oleander has been a driving force for providing "English as a Second Language" (ESL) classes for the Hispanic/Latino community and we now provide a computer learning center, which is housed in the Parr Building. Our church continues to lead the district in ministries that reach out to the least, the last and the lost. We look forward to 2010 and the many opportunities for ministry that await us. Oleander UMC is a living witness to the power of prayer and what can be accomplished when God's people "Love God, Love One Another and Love The World Outside the Walls."
